Automated Book Sorting System
Axiom designs, manufactures and installs automated book sorting systems that handle high-volume throughput, reduce manual labour, and integrate with your wider fulfilment operation. Built in the UK to our own designs.
Reduce Sorting Time
A book sorting system takes a single mixed stream of books, CDs, DVDs and other media and automatically diverts each item to the correct destination. Sorting decisions are made on the fly, based on data read from a barcode or ISBN and matched against your warehouse management system (WMS).
Axiom book sorters are built around our range of conveyors and sortation systems, engineered together into a single solution. Items can be routed by sell-through rate, stock requirement, recycling stream, courier, region, or anything you require.

Core Components
- Swivel Wheel Sorter – The core sorter used in Axiom’s largest book sorting installation. Driven wheels switch direction to send each item to the correct divert.
- Pop-Up Roller Sorter – Sorter with a series of multi-directional swivel wheel sorters.
- Belt & ZLP Conveyors – Belt conveyors carry items between zones. ZLP sections buffer and accumulate without back pressure or crushing.
- Tote lifts – High-speed lifts move full totes between floors, linking sortation, storage and dispatch.
- Pick, pack & dispatch – Integrated workstations feeding items directly into post sacks or shipping containers.
- Logistics software – In-house controls and software linking WMS, scanners, sorters and conveyors as one system.

Why Choose Axiom
British design and manufacture: The vast majority of equipment is built and assembled in the UK, keeping lead times short and aftercare close.
In-house engineering: Mechanical design, controls and software handled by Axiom’s own team, so the system works as one solution.
Proven at scale: Axiom designed and installed the automated sorting system at World of Books’ 100,000 sq. ft. Coventry hub.
Long-term support: Annual maintenance contracts keep equipment serviced and your engineers fully trained on the system.
Built around your operation: No two book sorters look the same. We design around your volumes, item mix, footprint and growth plans.
-
Can the system sort books, CDs and DVDs on the same line?
Yes. The Swivel Wheel Sorter and Pop-Up Roller Sorter both handle mixed flat media on a single line, with sortation decisions driven by the WMS rather than by item type.
-
Where is the equipment built?
In Tamworth, Staffordshire. All Axiom equipment is designed and manufactured in the UK by our in-house team.
